Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
